Maite Itoiz was born in Pamplona. She finished her studies as lyric soprano and classical guitarist with maximum qualifications and developed her voice and instrumentalist skills with different teachers and coachers of Europe, including her own father, the renowned guitarist Carlos Itoiz. Initially specialized in opera, parallel to her studies, she spent some years singing in some of the biggest symphonic choirs of Spain, where she sang as a soloist. Touring with some of the most famous orchestras of Europe singing works of composers like Bach, Händel, Mozart, Verdi, Brahms, Mahler, Orff, etc and participating in the recording of several classical CDs. At the same time, she joined several Early music ensembles, getting slowly deep into this world, participating also as a soloist in many different performances all over Spain.
As she was outstanding with her voice, short time later she was singing together also as a soloist with some of the greatest stars from the opera world (Juan Diego Flórez, Riccardo Frizza, Kamal Khan, Maria José Moreno, Daniella Barcellona...) in several opera productions in Spain (Verdi, Donizzeti, Bellini, Puccini...)
After the recording of a monographic CD dedicated to some of the most famous opera arias of Giacomo Puccini, she toured Germany with her piano player, Pedro Jose Rodríguez and also with the Hungarian pianist Thomas Meggies, getting great critics of her musical program interpretation. She also joined the Roncalli production "Circus meets Classic", singing opera arias with the International Symphony Orchestra of Germany, located in Dortmund, facing many sold out shows. Parallel to this, she got involved into the music production world, learning all the process in professional studios, and started producing for other artists.
Due to her experience in the symphonic world, she dared to start composing and arranging for orchestra and choirs, bringing to life her first self composed work, "Tales from the Secret Forest" where she makes a blending of a Neoclassic strong symphonic sound together with rock and pop elements. This album, made together with the Irish singer John Kelly, got in the top 40 of the official German charts, where it remained many weeks, reaching the number one position in different other charts of the country and selling a great amount of copies. A whole symphony orchestra and very renowned musicians such Xan Cerqueiro from Luar na Lubre, Guenther Gebauer (Bonnie M, Donna Summer) Wolf Simon (Deep Purple) Johan Daansen (Scorpions), etc, took care in the recording sessions. Thanks to John's experience in the music business, they promoted this album in the German media appearing in some of the most watched TV shows of the country.
Together with this album, a conceptual stage show was created. With time, the fantasy Opera-Rock "The Blue Elf's Dream", a musical show with ballet included was touring Germany, getting also over the borders of the country. A live DVD and CD came out of this show.
Right now Maite is in the process of the recording of a new album, "Elfenthal", an Early Music project that takes her back to her roots not only as Early music singer but also as lute player. “Elfenthal” will tour Germany from January 2010.
"Elfenthal" will be an ensemble of musicians specialized in Early music, playing works from Alfonso X, Libre Vermell, Cancionero de Palacio, Tomas Luis de Victoria and many others. John Kelly will also take part in this ensemble, specially as singer and percussionist.
